The production company behind "American Idol" is working on an a cappella singing competition that will be focused on college students, reports Deadline.com.

19 Entertainment and its parent company, CORE Media Group, have signed an agreement with Varsity Vocals, the a cappella varsity organization that organizes an international competition for the unaccompanied style of singing, the story says.

The deal will develop a show built around the competition and the college students who compete. The deal comes on the heels of the success of "Pitch Perfect," a film about an all-girl college a cappella group, the piece notes.
