HBO Films is developing a movie about a real-life world leader with actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, reports Deadline.com. The project is “Gorbachev.”
The production also involves former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev — the subject of the film — who is on board as a consultant, the story notes.
The movie is written by former "Hell on Wheels" showrunner John Shiban and is executive produced by DiCaprio, Hanks and others.
The film stems from DiCaprio’s relationship with Gorbachev, with the two meeting when the former Soviet president appeared in DiCaprio’s 2007 environmental documentary "The 11th Hour," the piece adds.
It’s also a reunion for DiCaprio and Hanks, who starred in Steven Spielberg’s "Catch Me If You Can."
