With CBS’s Sunday viewership measurement tweaked by its live coverage of the “March Madness” NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship, the Tiffany Network cruised to an apparent easy win in the ratings. As for the other broadcast networks, it was a slow night.
Fox aired all repeats and settled for a 1.1 average rating in the key 18-49 demo for prime time overall, TVbytheNumbers.com reports, based on Nielsen overnights. ABC’s mix of repeats and originals fared even worse, averaging a 0.9. NBC’s only fresh program was “All-Star Celebrity Apprentice,” and the network came in with a 1.3 for prime time, good for second place behind CBS.
CBS had a preliminary 2.5 average in viewers 18-49, winning the night. But its start times are offset throughout prime time due to overrun from the basketball coverage, and the CBS numbers will be subject to considerable adjustments.
Preliminary numbers for the networks for prime time in total viewers show CBS with 10.7 million, followed by NBC with 4.6 million, ABC with 3.6 million and Fox with 2.5 million.
ABC’s rebroadcast of the holiday special “It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown” delivered a 0.6 in 18-49, down 57% from its airing in 2010. “Revenge” fell 17% from last week to a 1.5, and “Red Widow” equaled its all-time low with a 1.0.
NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” led the 10 p.m. hour with a 1.4, down 13% from last week.
CBS notched a preliminary 4.2 in the 18-49 demo for the 7 p.m. hour, when it aired a combination of basketball and “60 Minutes.” Numbers for subsequent hours were 2.4 at 8 p.m. (“60 Minutes”/”Amazing Race”), 1.9 at 9 p.m. (“Amazing Race”/”The Good Wife”) and 1.3 at 10 p.m. (“Good Wife”/”The Mentalist”).
