James Ellroy’s 1990s novel "L.A. Confidential," which was turned into an Oscar-winning film noir starring Russell Crowe, might be getting a sequel on the small screen, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com.

Ellroy and New Regency are shopping a television project that would continue the themes and stories from the original book, which looked at organized crime, police corruption and celebrity in 1950s Los Angeles.

"I’ve learned that Ellroy wrote the project on spec as a TV drama series, which is being pitched to broadcast and cable networks as well as emerging distribution platforms, with multiple outlets interested," Andreeva writes.

She adds, "I hear the project is eyeing a straight-to-series commitment."
