NBC has a project in the pipeline that is a version of its hit singing competition "The Voice" for kids, aimed at featuring singers age 8 to 14, the New York Post reports.
While casting calls went out last week, the network placed the project on hold a few days later, deciding to tape the series at the same time and on the same stage as "The Voice,’ the story says. "The Voice Kids" has been a hit in other countries such as Germany and Holland.
A source close to the project reportedly said producers hope to begin production by the end of this year.
A young version of "American Idol" debuted in 2003, but "American Juniors" failed to catch on and was canceled after one season.
