No Reason to Worry About Aereo, Sinclair CEO Says

Sinclair Broadcasting CEO David Smith said he’s not concerned about Aereo, the $12-per-month television streaming service that pushed the top broadcasters to sue for copyright infringement. TVNewsCheck reports that Smith made the comments during a conference call with analysts.

Smith said there may have been misunderstandings about Fox and Univision’s threats to move to cable because of Aereo.

"The notion they would go to cable means they would go to cable through us," Smith said. "We would substitute other programming in prime time and in dayparts as we see fit to be competitive with Aereo. … It means we would change our cable content versus our over-the-air content."

He added that Aereo’s technology isn’t proprietary and that broadcasters could do it on their own. "I have no concern about Aereo whatsoever," he said.
