In a surprise selection, People magazine has named an award-winning actress as its Most Beautiful Woman in the World for 2013.

Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow, a 40-year-old mother of two, knocked pop superstar Beyonce out of the No. 1 spot.

Paltrow credited her exercise program with keeping her in shape, telling the magazine: "It makes me look younger and feel strong. When I first started, I thought, ‘I’ll never be good at this. This is a nightmare!’ But now it’s like brushing my teeth, I just do it."

It’s Paltrow’s fourth time making the magazine’s annual Most Beautiful List, but her first time at No. 1.

Other actresses who have topped the list include Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Halle Berry.

  1. People editors need to get out more often

  2. You would choose Julia Roberts over GP? But if all girls looked the same or all men thought only one woman was the only one worth having, this would be a horrible world.
