Starz has renewed a new drama series after airing just one episode. TheWrap.com reports that the pay-cable channel renewed the period drama "Da Vinci’s Demons."

The show drew 2.14 million viewers to its Friday debut episode, prompting the network to give it a second season. Production will begin in May, with the new season set to debut in 2014.

The show is created by writer and producer David Goyer of the "Dark Knight” trilogy and portrays artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci as a 25-year-old.

In a statement, Starz Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht said: “’Da Vinci’s Demons’ serves up action, adventure and history in a unique and highly entertaining way that only someone like David S. Goyer can. The first season premiered to strong audience engagement and we are excited to bring the next chapter of Leonardo da Vinci’s adventures to audiences around the world.”
