Cablevision Calls Cops on Protesters

Cablevision Chief Executive James Dolan called the police on protesters at the company’s annual meeting, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The protesters were shareholders with ties to the Communications Workers of America, a union that’s been in a labor dispute with Cablevision, the story notes. Dolan asked the protesters to leave several times before he called the cops.

"The CWA and Cablevision have been locked in a contentious contract dispute regarding a group of Brooklyn workers for over a year,” The Journal reports. “The CWA has accused Cablevision of illegally firing 22 Brooklyn employees who chose to join the union more than a year ago. Cablevision says it replaced them because they were refusing to work and has since rehired them, according to a Cablevision spokesman."

Annual meetings are usually fairly quiet, as The Journal notes. Cablevision said in a statement after the meeting that the union had "attempted to disrupt the meeting" and that authorities were now handling the matter.
