Showtime Drama Might Not Make It to Season 4

A Showtime series currently in its third season may wrap things up with a two-hour movie rather than move on to season four. Deadline.com reports that "The Borgias," a drama about the infamous Italian family, is unlikely to get a fourth season.

A final decision hasn’t yet been made, but Showtime executives are reportedly considering ending the show’s run with a movie that would wrap up the storylines.

The producers of "The Borgias," which was created by Neil Jordan, originally conceived that the show would run for four seasons, similar to the network’s "The Tudors."

The drama series has been gaining some ratings momentum, and a fourth season remains a possibility, the piece notes. The third season debuted last month with 582,000 viewers, down 4% from the 2012 premiere. The third episode, though, drew total-night viewership of 918,000, the highest number of the season so far.

Jordan indicated recently that he would like to finish the show with a movie. "Another 10 episodes is kind of exhausting,” he said during interviews with the British press, the report notes. “I’ve mapped out a movie, which, if [Showtime brass] agree, will shoot in June with the same cast, and finally the Pope will die horribly.”

  1. It’s Deadwood all over again!!

  2. This is not true, Showtime hasn’t announced anything of the sort. It’s a comment from months ago by Neil Jordan, taken out of context by Deadline.
Here’s hoping this amazing show gets a season 4! There’s too much awesome compelling story left to wrap up in 2 hours.
