USA Network has shifted into comedy mode with its first green lights for comedy projects in 15 years, reports Deadline.com.

The cable channel placed series orders for "Sirens," from comedian and actor Denis Leary, and "Playing House," from Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, the story says. The network has also picked up the comedy pilot "Love Is Dead," but won’t move forward with "Paging Dr. Freed."

"Sirens" and "Playing House" will accompany "Modern Family" on USA’s schedule and debut in the first quarter of 2014, the story notes. "Modern Family" will start airing reruns on USA on Sept. 24.

"With ‘Modern Family’ joining our lineup in the fall, we can leverage television’s most popular comedy to serve as a powerful launch pad for new originals in this genre,” said USA Co-President Chris McCumber.

"Sirens" is about three Chicago EMTs who are great at saving lives, but not always successful in their relationships, the story says. "Playing House" is about a pregnant woman and her career-focused best friend, while "Love Is Dead" is about a company that specializes in breaking up romantic relationships for those who will pay for someone else to handle it.
