‘Breaking Bad’ Creator Says He Cried While He Was Writing the Finale

"Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan said he cried while writing the finale to the AMC drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I haven’t told my crew this. I actually cried writing the end — ‘The end’ — on the last episode," said Gilligan, who spoke on a panel benefiting 826LA. "I haven’t since then."

He added that the show’s ending was not something that was planned from the outset. The show is frequently lauded for its careful planning.

"We sat around in the writer’s room for thousands of man hours playing a game of chess, saying, ‘If we move the character from here to here to here, what happens? What’s the counter-move?’” Gilligan said. “Essentially, we said, ‘What are all the possible endings we can come up with?’ And then, ‘What is the ending that satisfies us the most?’”

826LA is a nonprofit organization supporting student writers.

  1. Gilligan, little buddy, your failed attempt at facial hair makes me cry… with laughter.
