CBS is rethinking a new comedy project and has ordered a new pilot. Deadline.com reports that the network is converting "The McCarthys" from a single-camera project into a multicamera project.

Discussions are under way with potential cast members about joining the new pilot, the story notes. The project is about the gay son of a sports-focused Boston family whose biggest point of conflict isn’t his sexual orientation but his need for space from his family.

The project, which was written and co-executive produced by Brian Gallivan, was in serious consideration for a series order this season.

Along with "The McCarthys" getting another chance, CBS is also talking with Sony TV about retooling a single-camera comedy from Jim Gaffigan and Peter Tolan, the piece adds.

The story notes that CBS has a strong track record when it comes to re-piloting comedies. “’The Big Bang Theory’ started off with a pass for the original pilot, but the reworked second pilot spawned the blockbuster series,” the piece reports.
