CBS News has named a new national editor. TVNewser.com reports that the news division announced Monday it has appointed Terri Stewart to the position.

Stewart, who has been with CBS since 1986, has most recently worked as the northeast bureau chief for the network. She replaces Bill Felling, who was named executive director of news services for the network a few weeks ago.

Stewart will oversee day-to-day coverage of breaking news and special events.

Announcing the appointment was CBS News VP Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, who said in a memo to staffers: “Over the years [Stewart] has held a number of key positions at the Broadcast Center, coordinating news coverage and often shedding light on stories and people with little visibility. In addition to her journalistic credentials and her loyalty to CBS News, Terri is a confident leader in the newsroom and has the respect of her colleagues at CBS News.”
