The CW has made one of the first buys for the coming development season, with a project based on a Venezuelan telenovela called "Juana la Virgen," reports Deadline.com.

The CW’s "Jane the Virgin" project will be written by Jennie Snyder Urman, the creator of CW’s drama series "Emily Owens, MD." Urman will also executive produce, along with Ben Silverman of Electus, Gary Pearl and Jorge Granier.

The project is about Jane, a hard-working and religious young woman who is accidentally artificially inseminated, the story reports.

Silverman has successfully adapted Latin American shows for U.S. audiences, including ABC’s "Ugly Betty," which is based on a Colombian telenovela. "Juana la Virgen" was a huge hit in Venezuela, where it drew an average 39.1% share, the piece adds.
