Disney Channel has placed a series order for a show that is a sequel to a successful comedy series. MTV.com reports that the cable channel placed an order for “Girl Meets World,” a spinoff of “Boy Meets World.”

The show is set for a 2014 premiere.

“Fans have been buzzing about the ’90s sitcom reboot ever since news of the pilot broke late last year,” the story notes. “Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are reprising their roles as Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, but the show will focus on their 13-year-old daughter, Riley Matthews, played by newcomer Rowan Blanchard. Sabrina Carpenter will play Maya, Riley’s best friend.”

The series will reportedly be set in New York and will track Riley’s adventures as a seventh-grader — including dealing with her history teacher dad.

“In addition to Ben and Danielle, ‘Girl Meets World’ could see the return of other beloved ‘Boy Meets World’ actors,” the piece reports. “While filming the pilot, Blanchard Instagrammed photos of former stars Rider Strong (bad-boy bestie Shawn), Will Friedle (Cory’s dim-witted brother) and Maitland Ward Baxter (Rachel McGuire) visiting set.”

Production is set to get under way in Los Angeles this summer.
