The annual Labor Day weekend telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association has found a new broadcast home. The telethon founded by Jerry Lewis — and hosted by the comedian from its inception in 1966 until 2010 — moves to ABC, where this year’s event will air Sept. 1.
The event is now known as the “MDA Show of Strength Telethon,” and has been scaled back to two hours. It will air on ABC stations nationwide at 9 p.m. ET.
The arrangement marks the first time in the history of the telethon that it will air on a single network. In the past the organization partnered with a variety of network affiliates in various markets, with most of the stations in recent years being ABC affiliates.
