The damage continues to mount for celebrity chef Paula Deen, who is embroiled in a scandal over her use of the N-word. USA Today reports that the latest company to sever ties with Deen is Smithfield Foods, which has had a partnership with Deen since 2006.

The move comes after Deen was fired late last week by Food Network, where she has been one of the cable channel’s biggest stars.

Keira Lombardo, Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications for Smithfield, released a statement saying: "Smithfield condemns the use of offensive and discriminatory language and behavior of any kind. Therefore, we are terminating our partnership with Paula Deen. Smithfield is determined to be an ethical food industry leader and it is important that our values and those of our spokespeople are properly aligned."

Smithfield is a global pork producer based in Smithfield, Va.

Fans of Paula Deen have been trying to rally support for the embattled Southern cuisine specialist, as previously reported.

  1. The bigots may pack her restaurant and profess their disdain for the Food channel, but the truth is the old pig has lost her usefulness. Promoting fat food for fat people is a dead-end street. She had better get out of the road before the bus of public opinion flattens her.
    Good riddance!

  2. It is so wonderful to read comments from people that are perfect and without any sin in their past. Good thing you weren’t around when Christ said that he who is without sin should cast the first stone. You would have probably dropped a boulder on her head. Must feel great to know you have never made a mistake.
