NBC won the broadcast ratings battle by a narrow margin Wednesday night with the Stanley Cup Finals, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo. TVbytheNumbers.com reports that NBC’s 2.2 average for prime time put it just ahead of Fox’s 2.1.

The report notes that the numbers are subject to more than the usual adjustments due to the nature of live programming.

Fox aired back-to-back installments of “MasterChef,” with the 8 p.m. program delivering a 2.0 average in viewers 18-49, down three-tenths from last week, and the 9 p.m. episode climbing to a 2.2, also down three-tenths from a week ago.

CBS aired only one new program, “The American Baking Competition,” which equaled last week’s 1.2 average in 18-49.

ABC televised a mix of repeats and originals, with a new episode of “Family Tools” matching the series low from last week — a 0.9 in the 18-49 demo. “How to Live With Your Parents” slipped two-tenths from last week’s series low to set a new series low with a 1.0. “The Lookout” equaled its 1.1 average from a week ago.

For prime time overall, NBC led the way with a 2.2 average in 18-49, followed by Fox (2.1 average), Univision (1.5), CBS (1.1) and ABC (1.0). NBC also won total viewers, averaging 6.2 million to lead CBS (6.0 million), Fox (5.3 million), ABC (3.8 million) and Univision (3.6 million).
