Director Steven Soderbergh is following up the success of his HBO movie "Behind the Candelabra" by joining forces with another pay-cable channel.

The Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports that Soderbergh will direct all 10 episodes of a new Cinemax series called "The Knick," which is set in the Knickerbocker Hospital in New York City, circa 1900. The series stars Clive Owen, who will also executive produce along with Soderbergh.

The piece reports: "Cinemax’s airing of an original series directed by Soderbergh is a further sign that the pay-cable channel is branching out from its traditional programming slate of pulpier and racier material, with such current series as the softcore ‘Femme Fatales,’ ‘Lingerie’ and ‘Working Girls in Bed.’ It has sometimes had the nickname ‘Skin-emax.’"
