An actor who has made his mark in TV series including "Game of Thrones" and "Stargate: Atlantis" will star in a new limited series for Sundance Channel. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo on HBO’s "Thrones," will star in "The Red Road" — previously known as "The Descendants."

The project comes from executive producer Sarah Condon, writer Aaron Guzikowski and director and showrunner Bridget Carpenter, the report notes.

"The six-episode ‘Red Road’ is described as a hard-hitting drama that revolves around a weathered sheriff struggling to keep his family together while policing two clashing communities: the folks in the small town in which he grew up and those in the neighboring Ramapo Mountains," THR reports. "Sarah Condon (‘Bored to Death’) will produce, with Contraband’s Aaron Guzikowski on board to pen the script. Bridget Carpenter (‘Friday Night Lights,’ ‘Parenthood’) will executive produce and serve as showrunner."

Momoa is set to play Philip, described in the report as "a Ramapo-Indian brimming with menace, charisma and hypnotic self-confidence. He attended high school with Harold, now a police officer, and his wife Jean (‘Boardwalk Empire’s’ Julianne Nicholson) until his supposed involvement in the death of the latter’s twin brother forced him to drop out and flee the state. He’s now been sent back to town by his crime-lord father to establish a new base of operations for vice and mayhem."

The project is Sundance’s second original scripted series, the piece notes. The channel’s first, "Rectify," is set to come back for season two next year.

THR notes: "The casting comes a day after Sundance received a record 10 Primetime Emmy nominations for its miniseries ‘Top of the Lake’ and ‘Restless.’"
