Paula Deen’s Accuser Says Lawsuit ‘Has Never Been About the N-Word’

As celebrity chef Paula Deen deals with the fallout from saying in a deposition that she used a racial epithet, the woman behind the lawsuit tells CNN that the case "has never been about the N-word."

Lisa Jackson, who filed a harassment lawsuit against Deen, issued a statement to CNN’s Don Lemon, the story reports.

The lawsuit "is to address Ms. Deen’s patterns of disrespect and degradation of people that she deems to be inferior," Jackson said.

"I may be a white woman, but I could no longer tolerate her abuse of power as a business owner, nor her condonation of Mr. Hier’s despicable behavior on a day-to-day basis," she said, referring to Deen’s brother, Bubba Hier. "I am what I am, and I am a human being that cares about all races, and that is why I feel it is important to be the voice for those who are too afraid to use theirs."

Deen’s attorney has called Jackson’s allegations of violence, discrimination and racism false, while Deen has said she doesn’t condone prejudice, the story notes.

  1. Yes, this lawsuit was never about Deen using racist language. That revelation is a consequence of her lawyers not advising her that a harsh deposition could reveal information that she would prefer not see the light of day.
All lawyers are assholes until you need one.
