An actress who has been a familiar face on TV for years is reportedly breaking from the Church of Scientology. The New York Post’s Page Six reports that "King of Queens" star Leah Remini is making the move after she underwent years of "interrogations" and "thought modification."

Remini is reportedly quitting the church because of policies that forbid members from questioning the management of leader David Miscavige, and for forcing believers to "disconnect" from family members who leave the church, the story says.

In one episode recounted by former Sea Org member Mike Rinder, he says Remini asked where Miscavige’s wife, Shelly, was during Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ 2006 wedding. He reports that she was scolded by a high-ranking official, who told her she didn’t have the "rank" to ask about Miscavige’s wife.

The story adds that Shelly Miscavige allegedly hasn’t been seen in public since 2007.

The report notes: "As a result, Remini ‘was put through interrogations and blacklisted within the church that she donated millions to and that her family has spent their lives in. She was put through "thought modification" for five years,’ our source said."

The source quoted in the story explains Remini’s decision to leave the church, saying: "It all began when Leah questioned the validity of excommunication of people. She is stepping back from a regime she thinks is corrupt. She thinks no religion should tear apart a family or abuse someone under the umbrella of ‘religion.’”

The source said "internal reports" filed by longtime church friends of the actress led to an investigation by the church of Remini’s family.

The report adds: "Someone close to Remini said she’s weighing going public ‘when she sees what the church tries to do. She has heard they use people to scare you into silence.’”

The report quotes the source saying: “She’s from Brooklyn. The church can’t hurt her … they don’t have her family, that’s all that matters to her.”

A representative for Scientology denied the allegations.

  1. You go girl! Just go fast and far away.

  2. I can’t believe that big name stars are associated w/this group of cult wacos. I know that there is worse, BUT, a religion based on “ALIENS”. Oh wait, I guess Star Gate would explain it all. AYSM !!
