CBS is developing an updated version of a 1970s television series. Deadline.com reports that the network has a reboot of the comedy anthology "Love, American Style" in the works.

The new version won’t keep the anthology format, which has proved a tough sell — one example being NBC’s experience with "Love Bites," the story says.

Instead, the new "Love, American Style" will track four couples who are connected through their complicated relationships.

The original series ran on ABC for five seasons, and there have been several stabs at reviving the show, including an ABC pilot starring Melissa Joan Hart that aired in 1999.
