Disney has received a green light to build a huge television and film production facility. TheWrap.com reports that the company received approval for the project from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The 58-acre site will be built on the Golden Oak Ranch, which has a long history as a filming location. The Santa Clarita Valley site, just north of Los Angeles, served as the setting for Disney films such as the 1957 classic "Old Yeller" and the 2007 feature "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End," along with TV shows including "Bonanza," "Charmed," "Little House on the Prairie" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

The new facility will include several sound stages, as well as writers’ quarters and other amenities. The company is aiming to complete construction of the site in 2016, the story says.

The project should create $530 million in annual economic gains and new revenue for California, while also boosting job creation, the article notes, citing Supervisor Mike Antonovich.

"Many of the film production companies are now going out of state," Antonovich said. "This is an opportunity to increase film production in Los Angeles County."
