Actor, director and writer James Franco took the wraps off plans for a new TV series, invoking the image of a famous artist, Vincent van Gogh, in an Instagram message Tuesday night teasing the program, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Franco uploaded a picture with his own face superimposed over a self-portrait of van Gogh, as seen below. The post reportedly included the message: “New TV show, with me, and a bunch of crazy stuff. Announcement tomorrow.”
Franco followed up this morning with details on the show — and another reference to classic art.
EW reports: "A new hour-long weekly series called ‘James Franco Presents’ will premiere on Ovation this November; Franco will executive produce and host the series, which will deliver ‘an unprecedented look at the fascinating projects and real-life adventures of Mr. Franco, "James Franco Presents" will document his provocative explorations of the world of art. From his gallery exhibits to his students’ films, the innovative series will also provide an exclusive opportunity to hear Mr. Franco’s point of view on his most-personal passion projects, most of which have not been seen by the public.’ In addition to his own work, the show will highlight up-and-coming artists."
Robert Weiss, chief creative officer for Ovation, added in a press release: “James Franco is the ultimate artist, so partnering with James is a dream come true for Ovation. And, since Ovation’s mantra is ‘art is everywhere,’ James is the perfect person through whom to introduce viewers to a modern, more inclusive definition of art.”
The second Instagram post has Franco’s face superimposed over the Mona Lisa, accompanied by the message that the show is a “new TV series about art. Duuuh.”
