A singer who is a major international star had more than a few unkind words for "The X Factor," not just turning down an offer to join the show, but doing so with a flourish.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Charlotte Church had a strong negative reaction to her invitation to become a part of the U.K. version of "X Factor."
The 27-year-old singer tweeted about the offer Aug. 8, writing: "I got asked to do the X Factor job. I’d rather poke my eyes out with sticks than be a part of the machine that kills music.”
She explained that when she met with people from the show to find out what level of creative input she would have, "they basically said none unless it was in line with what was required…I wanted to see just how hard-line it was. I found my answer and politely declined.”
The story adds: "Subsequent reports out of the U.K. cite an ‘X Factor’ source who says producers found Church ‘boring,’ adding that ‘she was never high on the priority list as there were far bigger names producers were looking at.’"
