NBC is getting back in business with some of the key players behind the network’s long-running medical drama "ER." Deadline.com reports that the network has given a pilot production commitment to "Outbreak," a drama based on the 1995 movie, from former "ER" executive producers John Wells and Jack Orman.

The project marks one of the biggest drama commitments so far this development cycle, the story notes.

"Outbreak," written by Wells and Orman, is a medical thriller about a team trying to contain a deadly virus before it becomes a pandemic, the story reports. The film, directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo and Morgan Freeman, grossed $190 million on a $50 million budget.

"ER," created by Michael Crichton, ran on NBC from 1994-2009.
