Syfy is moving forward with a project it has had in development to adapt a Terry Gilliam feature film. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the cable channel ordered a pilot for "12 Monkeys."

At one point the channel was considering a straight-to-series order for the project, the report notes.

Gilliam’s 1995 post-apocalyptic time travel movie starred Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe and Brad Pitt. It was inspired by the 1962 short film "La Jetee" by Chris Marker.

"Feature film producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment — one of the production companies on board the Universal film — submitted the pitch and will executive produce the hourlong pilot," THR reports. "Terry Matalas (‘Nikita,’ ‘Terra Nova,’ ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’) and Travis Fickett (‘Nikita,’ ‘Terra Nova’) will pen the script for the Universal Cable Productions venture. Production will begin in November."
