After leaving viewers in suspense with a second season that ended in a bang — literally, with an attack on a CIA memorial service — Showtime has released a three-minute clip previewing the upcoming third season of its drama hit "Homeland," which returns Sept. 29, USA Today reports.

"Marine-turned-terrorist Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) was framed for the attack, and is now on the lam. He’s absent from the first two episodes, after a teary farewell with handler/love interest Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), and when we do see him (as you’ll see in the trailer), he’s sporting a hoodie over his shaved head. Meanwhile, daughter Dana tries out a Muslim prayer mat," the piece reports.

Says executive producer Alex Gansa: "One of the themes of season three is the cost that being an intelligence officer exacts on the people who are in that career. And Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and Carrie are obviously the prime examples of that. As a result of the attack last year, the CIA itself is on trial: That agency couldn’t even protect itself; how should it be expected to protect the country? Saul is confronted with that very question in the first episode."
