NBC’s "Today" show reportedly had the biggest crowd in the show’s history crammed into the area around New York’s Rockefeller Center this morning. The reason, USA Today reports, was an appearance by the British boy band One Direction.

"In fact, according to ‘Today,’ NYPD estimated 18,000 Directioners gathered around Rockefeller Center, packing into about two New York City blocks outside the show’s studios," the paper reports.

"Today’s" Al Roker confirmed: "It seems to me this is the biggest crowd we’ve ever had."

USA Today adds: "A mother and two daughters from Queens, N.Y., who got in line six days ago — on Saturday — were named the ‘biggest’ fans of the day, Matt Lauer said."

However, they weren’t the only hard-core fans on the scene, as hundreds reportedly camped out overnight and many got in line days ahead of the performance.
