A singer-songwriter, musician and actress who has been working as a judge on "The X Factor" is joining the Fox musical drama series "Glee." The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed confirms that Demi Lovato will appear in a major role during the show’s fifth season.
"As first reported by TVLine, Lovato will have a recurring role as Dani, a New York-based struggling artist who becomes a friend to Rachel (Lea Michele) and Santana (Naya Rivera)," THR reports. "She’ll also have frequent interactions with Adam Lambert’s mysterious character, details of whom are being kept under wraps. The ‘American Idol’ alum and ‘X Factor’ judge/former Disney Channel star will have several musical numbers together in Lovato’s reportedly six-episode stint."
Lovato’s work on Disney Channel’s "Sonny With a Chance" wrapped up in January 2011, the report notes. Her shooting for "Glee" will work around her "X Factor" schedule.
"The casting marks the latest example of synergy with Glee’s Thursday night companions and the show’s first casting since the death of star Cory Monteith on July 13," the report notes.
"Glee" returns for the fall season Sept. 26.
