One of the hosts of a cable news show came under fire over an incident that took place on the show late last week. The U.K. publication The Daily Mail reports that Joe Kernen, a co-host of CNBC’s "Squawk Box," apologized for the incident, in which he mimicked an Indian accent and made a joke about 7-Eleven during a segment about foreign exchange rates.

Kernen came under fire for what was characterized as "embarrassing racial stereotypes," the story reports.

The hosts of "Squawk Box" had been talking about India’s central bank when Becky Quick produced two rupee notes from her purse. Kernen then launched into a fake Indian accent, to his co-hosts’ alarm.

Kernen then said, "Are they good at 7-Eleven?," leading to condemnation from his co-hosts, the story reports. He followed up with a quick on-air apology.

Kernen later issued another apology in response to a request from The Daily Mail for a comment. He told the publication: "Last Friday, I made an inappropriate and insensitive remark on ‘Squawk Box.’ I apologize for any offense it caused."
