One of the celebrity contestants on the ABC competition "Dancing with the Stars" was injured while performing on the show. E! Online reports that television’s "Science Guy," Bill Nye, hurt his knee, which may require surgery.

Nye was injured Monday while dancing with partner Tyne Stecklein, the story says.

"We can confirm Bill Nye was injured during his performance last night and is currently seeking medical attention," an ABC representative said Tuesday. "We will continue to keep you posted on his progress."

Nye — who has called his partnership with Stecklein "beauty and the geek" — has become a fan favorite on the show, with his first performance drawing more than 3 million views on YouTube, the piece notes.

On Monday night, he pleased the crowd with his Ludwig van Beethoven costume, dancing to the composer’s Fifth Symphony. If he continues, he and his partner are scheduled to perform the Jive next week, the story says.

Below is the first performance on the show by Nye and Stecklein — watch it!
