Did Anthony Weiner Have an Ulterior Motive for His Failed Mayoral Bid? According to One Report, He Was Angling for a TV Job All Along

New York politician Anthony Weiner, who became a punchline and lost his New York City mayoral bid amid revelations about his sexting habits, has his eye on a new gig: a lucrative television or radio role, reports the New York Observer.

Weiner has been talking with agents since February, before he even started to think about a return to public service, the story says. Weiner, who resigned from Congress amid an earlier sexting scandal, reintroduced himself to public life with an April story in The New York Times Magazine.

"One agent he was said to have met is known for high-end placements on cable TV networks and represents many household names. According to an industry insider, Mr. Weiner wanted to gauge how a failed mayoral bid would impact his prospects of landing a lucrative TV or radio gig," the piece reports.

Weiner was frequently on cable news networks before he resigned from Congress, and seemed to enjoy that part of campaigning, the story notes. Since losing in the New York City mayoral primary, he has made several media appearances, including a radio interview with Geraldo Rivera last week.

The article reports: "The appearances have helped to fuel speculation that Mr. Weiner may now be eying a career on the airwaves — similar to his fellow scandal-scarred candidate, ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who hosted a show on CNN after his resignation."

So where might he pop up? MSNBC would be a natural fit, the piece says.

Weiner declined to confirm or deny the meetings, according to the article.
