Dr. Drew Reveals He Had Treatment for Cancer

Reality television host Dr. Drew Pinsky has revealed that he underwent treatment for cancer. People magazine reports that Pinsky says he underwent surgery last July for prostate cancer, telling only a small number of friends and colleagues at the time.

He returned to work after 10 days and has made a complete recovery, as he tells it.

"The erectile function is normal, sex drive is normal, bladder works normally. And I don’t have to worry about prostate cancer," he told the publication.

Pinsky said the cancer was discovered after he returned from a Caribbean vacation, when he worried he had caught a tropical disease. While the illness passed, he was found to have elevated PSA, and was treated for prostatitis. After getting treatment for that and not getting better, he had a biopsy, which uncovered the cancer.

"We’re all bad as males. I convinced myself I could do my own primary care," he said. "These are very complicated issues. The message I want to give out is that this is still an art. So much of the good outcome for me was the result of people following their intuition, including my wife."
