One day after checking into a rehab center to deal with his drug addiction, NBA player and reality TV personality Lamar Odom checked out, according to People magazine.

“The pro basketball player, 32, checked into the drug and alcohol center on Wednesday morning and left Thursday afternoon with an assistant, according to two sources. Odom was later spotted in Los Angeles,” the story says.

Odom, who is married to reality star Khloe Kardashian Odom and is one of the stars of the E! reality series "Khloe & Lamar," was arrested last week for allegedly driving under the influence and has a history of drug use, the piece reports.

He “violated NBA drug policies twice in eight months back in 2001, and spoke in 2003 of his marijuana use,” the story notes.

TMZ.com reports that Khloe was unaware that her husband had entered rehab, and indicates Odom’s drug issues appear to be putting a strain on the marriage.

"Sources close to the couple tell us Khloe never got so much as a heads-up about Lamar’s plans, and was completely blindsided by the report he’s checked in for treatment," TMZ reports. "We’re told one big reason for that is Khloe and Lamar have not been talking at all since she issued an ultimatum last weekend — get help or our marriage is over — intending to force his hand on the issue of rehab."

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reports that Odom has hired former O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro.

"Shapiro is a longtime family friend of Odom’s wife, Khloe Kardashian Odom, and served alongside Robert Kardashian, Khloe’s father, as part of O.J. Simpson’s legal team when a court verdict found the football star not guilty of the 1994 killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman," the Times reports.

The Times story adds that Odom is reportedly receiving treatment for his drug problems. "Two sources told the Times that Odom is getting treatment for his problems but is not in rehab," the story notes.
