Legal Battle Halts Production of Soap Opera: Did ABC Use Fatal Storyline on ‘General Hospital’ to Sabotage ‘One Life to Live’?

"One Life to Life" has reportedly halted work as production company Prospect Park wages a legal battle with the show’s former network, ABC, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Prospect Park will focus on "All My Children," which was proving more popular with online viewers, while it resolves the legal dispute, the story says. Writers are now working on scripts for a second season of the soap.

Prospect Park is claiming in a lawsuit that ABC has actively tried to sabotage the online revival of the soap operas, including killing off some "One Life to Live" characters who appeared on ABC’s "General Hospital," the Times notes.

"In the ultimate act of bad faith, ABC killed off two ‘OLTL’ characters on loan to ‘General Hospital’ by having their car forced off a cliff," Prospect Park claims in its lawsuit, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

ABC says it has done nothing wrong, the Times reports.

  1. I wish Congress would get off this Syria thing and on to real pressing issues like getting involved in solving the OLTL/GH dispute.

  2. Why halt production? Don’t they remember the “Dallas” from the 1980s–bringing Patrick Duffy (Bobby on the show) back from the dead–after an entire season of being dead.
There were even one character that was dead on Knots Landing, but alive on Dallas. “Dallas’ even brought the same actress (whose character was killed off in the show), back in a different role.
Prospect Park could get creative to bring characters back to life, thereby working around any of ABC’s actions on “General Hospital”.

  3. Part of it is probably to generate publicity. Personally, I’d spit in ABC’s eye and completely ignore anything that happened to my characters on their show. Anybody squawks about it, just claim it’s an alternate universe.
