A major Fox series premiered Wednesday night to the show’s lowest rating of all time, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo.
The show is "The X Factor," which delivered a series-low 2.1 average in 18-49 for its one-hour season three premiere at 8 p.m., TVbytheNumbers.com reports. The number was well below the 3.4 turned in by last year’s season premiere, and below the 2.7 that episode delivered in the 8 p.m. hour.
But the number for "X Factor," combined with a 2.4 for its lead-out, the season finale of "MasterChef" (up two-tenths of a point from last week, but down two-tenths from last year’s finale), was enough to give Fox a comfortable ratings win on a night when much of the broadcast schedule consisted of repeat programming. "MasterChef" wound up as the top show of the night.
CBS put up a fresh "Big Brother" against the "X Factor" premiere at 8 p.m. and eked out a narrow win for the hour with a 2.2 average in the 18-49 demo, slipping one-tenth from last week. Repeats of "Criminal Minds" (1.1 average) and "CSI" (1.2) filled out CBS’s prime time.
NBC continues to see the numbers fall for its heavily promoted game show "Million Second Quiz." Airing against "Big Brother" and the "X Factor" premiere, Wednesday’s third installment of "Quiz" dropped to a 1.2 average, down from a 1.5 Tuesday night and a 1.7 for Monday’s opener.
Leading out from "Million Second Quiz," NBC’s "America’s Got Talent" managed a 2.1 — down two-tenths from a week ago and equaling the show’s season low while losing the hour by three-tenths to the "MasterChef" finale. NBC wrapped its prime-time lineup with "Camp" at 10 p.m., settling for a 0.9 in the 18-49 demo — tying the series low.
ABC went will a lineup of repeat programs and finished off the pace.
The numbers for prime time overall show Fox on top in adults 18-49 with a 2.2 average rating, followed by CBS (1.5 average), NBC (1.4), Univision (1.3) and ABC (1.0). Things are quite a bit tighter in total viewers, where Fox’s 6.182 million is barely ahead of NBC’s 6.177 million, with CBS’s 5.916 million in the ballpark. Trailing are ABC with 3.558 million, and Univision with 3.375 million.
