A new drama series from Steven Bochco ("Hill Street Blues," "L.A. Law") is a go. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that TNT has given a 10-episode order to "Murder in the First," which stars Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson.

Bochco wrote the pilot with co-creator Eric Lodal, with both men also executive producing.

The drama provides a look at the modern justice system by examining two murder cases that don’t appear to be related, the story says.

Diggs will portray a homicide detective whose wife is terminally ill, while Robertson will play his partner, a single mom who understands her partner is going through a tough time. Both actors received multiple pilot offers, the piece notes.

The project is one of four new scripted dramas that have been ordered by TNT, following Frank Darabont’s "Mob City," Michael Bay’s "The Last Ship" and Howard Gordon’s "Legends."

"Murder in the First" will debut in summer 2014.
