CBS announced that its Sunday "NFL on CBS" doubleheader, which included the so-called "Manning Bowl III" showdown between quarterback brothers Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos and Eli Manning of the New York Giants, was the highest-rated debut for the CBS national game since the network regained NFL broadcast rights in 1998.
In metered markets, the coverage delivered an overnight 17.8 household rating/34 share, the network reported. The numbers also represented the highest-rated NFL game window of the day, including prime time, CBS announced. The network’s late two-game window also included Oakland vs. Jacksonville.
The NFL window’s 17.8/34 was up 24% from last year’s 14.4/28 for the New York Jets vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans vs. San Diego Chargers, the network noted.
