For top executives in the cable industry, the past few months have marked a turbulent time, which is continuing with the departure of Travel Channel President Laureen Ong, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com.
Ong will step down from the Scripps channel at the end of the month.
"I feel my mission at Travel Channel is complete,” Ong said. “I came here to help transition Travel Channel into the Scripps family of lifestyle brands, put together a great leadership and creative team, and position the network for unprecedented growth."
Andreeva notes that the network’s average prime-time viewership numbers were down 7% from last year in the most recent third quarter.
"While a successor is being found, Burton Jablin, president of the Scripps Networks operating division, will oversee Travel Channel’s operations and development on an interim basis. Ong previously was the founding president of the National Geographic Channel," Andreeva notes.
