Michael Jackson’s family lost its lawsuit stemming from the death of the pop superstar, with concert promoter AEG Live cleared of wrongful death allegations, reports People magazine.

The singer’s mother and children shouldn’t receive damages, according to a jury in the Los Angeles Superior Court case. The panel found that Dr. Conrad Murray, who gave Jackson a lethal dose of an anesthetic, wasn’t unfit or incompetent.

"The jury’s decision completely vindicates AEG Live, confirming what we have known from the start — that although Michael Jackson’s death was a terrible tragedy, it was not a tragedy of AEG Live’s making," an attorney for AEG said.

Attorneys had argued over whether Murray was an employee of Jackson’s or the concert promoter. Murray wasn’t part of the trial. The doctor was convicted of manslaughter in November 2011 and will be released from jail later this month.
