An executive who has spent close to 10 years at the top of a cable network targeting women is moving on.
Writes our good friend Mike Reynolds at Multichannel News, "Kim Martin, the longtime leader of WE tv, is leaving her position at the women’s-targeted service. Martin, who has served as president and general manager of WE tv for nine years, will transition into an advisory role at AMC Networks, reporting to CEO Josh Sapan."
According to the article, here is part of an internal memo about Martin’s impending departure that was written by Ed Carroll, the COO of WE tv parent AMC Networks: "Kim is an extremely talented executive with an impressive track record at WE tv. Under her leadership, the network’s distribution has grown, viewership is up and WE tv is a top 3 women’s network on Thursday and Friday nights…. I want to thank Kim for her many contributions to the company. Her leadership, commitment to excellence and her unflagging enthusiasm have made her a key member of the executive team, and has cemented WE tv’s reputation as a great place to work.”
For four years, from 1987 to 1991, Martin was senior VP, affiliate sales and marketing for Discovery Networks. In 1999 she joined AMC and WE as EVP, affiliate distribution, affiliate and events marketing.
Five years later, in 2004, Martin was promoted to EVP and general manager of WE. Then, in 2008, Martin became the president and GM of WE.
