NBC Developing Legal Drama With ‘CSI’ Mainstay

NBC is working with one of the mainstays behind the scenes at CBS’s "CSI" on a new legal drama. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the network has given a script order to "Law Man," based on a book by convicted bank robber Shon Hopwood, who later became an attorney. The project comes from "CSI" writer and executive producer Carol Mendelsohn.

Hopwood will work as a consultant on the drama, which has tapped Mark Gibson and Philip Halprin to write the script and executive produce with Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz, the president of Carol Mendelsohn Productions. It’s the second sale for Mendelsohn this development season, after selling a period surf drama to the CW, the piece notes.

"The drama also serves as CBS Television Studios’ latest off-network sale as it looks to expand beyond its sibling networks CBS and the CW this development season. The studio also has efforts set up at ABC and Fox this season," the story adds.
