Some employees of NBC got bad news this morning as the company’s digital division began laying off workers, Deadline.com reports.
"Reports on the number laid off so far vary wildly, ranging from ‘four staffers’ to ‘bloodbath,’" the story reports, adding that NBC declined to comment for the story.
"Among those rumored to be affected: Craig Velarde, Jake Garcia, and Eddy Ordonez," Deadline reports. "At any rate, the layoffs are the result of a restructuring under way by Rob Hayes, EVP Digital Media for NBC."
Hayes replaced veteran NBCUniversal digital chief Vivi Zigler a little more than a year ago, the piece notes, being named executive VP of digital media at NBC.
"Hayes was among the former Showtime execs who joined NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt (former Showtime programming topper) at NBC. Hayes oversees the network’s day-to-day digital strategy and operations," the story reports. "According to one insider, Hayes is taking a different approach than his predecessor at NBC, and wants to emphasize different areas of digital — hence the layoffs."
