NBC’s Prime-Time Lineup Sinks — and NBC Still Wins the Night

On a night when its entire prime-time lineup fell to season lows, NBC still racked up a Tuesday ratings win for prime time overall, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo. CBS, meanwhile, coasted to a big win in total viewers.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that NBC’s two-hour "The Voice" and one-hour "Biggest Loser" fell to season lows. "The Voice" lost 18% from a week ago to settle for a 3.5 average in viewers 18-49 — still the top broadcast show of the night — while "The Biggest Loser" dipped 10% to a 1.8.

CBS got a steady performance out of its familiar Tuesday night drama lineup, for the most part. "NCIS" was even with last week with a 3.0 average in the 18-49 demo and "NCIS: Los Angeles" inched up 4% to a 2.6, but "Person of Interest" had a shaky outing with a series-low 1.8, losing 18% from last week’s number.

"NCIS" had an especially impressive number in total viewers, with 18.98 million to help fuel CBS’s overall win in that metric.

Fox rode a special Tuesday installment of "The X Factor" to a third place finish for the night, but the show’s 1.5 average rating in 18-49 was down 25% from the most recent episode, which aired Thursday, Oct. 10.

ABC got decent results for its one hour of original programming, considering that the network filled the 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. hours with repeats. "The Goldbergs," with a repeat of "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." as a lead-in, matched the 1.7 the show delivered last week in 18-49, when it had a fresh episode of "Marvel’s" as its lead-in. And "Trophy Wife" bounced back from its series low a week ago, rising 17% to a 1.4.

The "Marvel’s" rerun at 8 p.m. settled for a 1.2 in 18-49, while a repeat of "Shark Tank" at 10 p.m. managed only a 1.0.

The overall prime-time numbers show NBC on top in the 18-49 demo with a 3.0 average, followed by CBS (2.5 average), Fox (1.5), Univision (1.3) and ABC (1.2). CBS won total viewers with an average of 15.2 million, followed by NBC (9.6 million), Fox (4.8 million), ABC (4.1 million) and Univision (3.2 million).
