An actress known for her work in TV Westerns of the 1950s and 1960s has died. The New York Times reports that Patricia Blair, who played Rebecca Boone, the wife of Daniel Boone, on the NBC series "Daniel Boone," died Sept. 9 of breast cancer. She was 80.

Blair played the hotel owner Lou Mallory on "The Rifleman," and had guest roles on a number of TV Western series including "Bonanza" and "The Virginian." Because she was 5 feet, 9 inches tall, she could fit into the same frame as her male co-stars, the story notes.

She also acted in movies such as "The Black Sleep" in 1956, with Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr., and "The Electric Horseman" in 1979. Her other TV appearances included "The Bob Cummings Show" and "Perry Mason."

She told the Charlotte Observer in 1996 that she thought Westerns’ day may have passed. "They’re a wonderful form of entertainment, but they’re simplistic, almost like passion plays,” she said. “I don’t know if people want that kind of mythology anymore.”

Here’s a clip showcasing Blair’s work in the TV series "Daniel Boone":
