Why Fox Is Delaying the Premiere of Its New Sci-Fi Series

Fox has decided to delay the premiere of a new science-fiction drama series, and the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports that the reasoning has to do with football.

The network will delay the bow of "Almost Human" by two weeks, with the expectation that the later date will help the show take advantage of a lead-in from the NFL, the story reports.

The drama, which is executive produced by J.J. Abrams, was originally slated to debut Nov. 4, but now will become a two-night event on Nov. 17 and 18, with the show airing after the NFL doubleheader on the 17th, the story says.

"Will the big-game launch help the late-in-the-season debut? Fox has not had the easiest time launching sci-fi offerings (cough *’Terra Nova,’ ‘Alcatraz’* cough) in recent years. And the network seems keen on the idea of using sports as a way to draw more viewers," the piece notes.

The show is about police officers who are paired with androids who appear human.
