A basic cable and satellite channel is embarking on an ambitious TV project. Deadline.com reports that WGN America, working in conjunction with The Weinstein Company, has an event series in the pipeline based on the Ten Commandments.

The 10-part series will be executive produced by Bruce Cohen, the Oscar-winning producer of movies such as “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Beauty.”

Each episode will be directed by a different director, with the project aiming for A-list talent, the story says.

“This would be one of Hollywood’s highest-profile takes on one of the most studied and sacred texts in Christianity and Judaism since the 1956 movie directed by Cecil B. DeMille starring Charlton Heston as Moses,” the piece notes.

News of the project comes after History scored in the ratings with its miniseries “The Bible,” underscoring the popularity of religious-themed programming.

WGN America has already ordered two original scripted series, "Salem" and "Manhattan," the report notes.
